One Paragraph Movie Review: A Hard Day’s Night
Two hundred and fourteenth film: A Hard Day’s Night. Okay, I know the songs are good, I know The Beatles are down-to-earth, funny, and irreverent, and I know this film — pretending it’s a typical two days in the life of John, Paul, George and Ringo — sort of broke new ground as far as movies featuring globally successful pop stars go at the time. But the only reason I can think of that A Hard Day’s Night was made was because too many people liked The Beatles in 1964 and they thought they could cull them a bit by weeding out the ones who bore easily. The movie doesn’t tell us how The Beatles make music, it just shows us how they move from room to room. A fake grandfather McCartney is even thrown in to keep the storyline going, which he successfully doesn’t. I was sleeping like a log. One and a half Chelsea boots out of five.
