One Paragraph Movie Review: Blazing Saddles
Forty-eighth film: Blazing Saddles, one of the most forgivably offensive movies ever made. I love it so, so much but every time I see it I say “Oh WOW” with mild horror more often than the time before. Not just at the Jewish Native American, or the granny being punched in the guts, or the relentless use of the N-word, or the cavalier use of the word ‘rape’, or the horse being punched in the face, but also at the absolutely blatant smoking of cigars. Lung and mouth cancer, you guys. Come on. That said, I stand by my claim that ‘Mongo only pawn in game of life’ is one of the world’s most poignant lines, and Lili von Shtupp is the greatest movie femme fatale of cinema’s history and it’s now obvious to me that Madonna modelled at least five of her looks on her. An easy four and three-quarter streams of authentic frontier gibberish out of five.
