One Paragraph Movie Review: Boyz N The Hood

Fifty-fifth film: Boyz N The Hood. I am so embarrassed about how closely affiliated to West Coast hip hop culture this particular super-white middle class goody-two-shoes thought she was around the time this came out, but watching it in 2018 is very, very good. The acting is super-hammy, but the alternating sense of hope and hopelessness in 90s South Central LA is extremely effective and the soundtrack is ridiiiiiiiculous. Also young Laurence Fishburne is fooiiiine. Four 40s of St Ides malt liquor out of five.
