Sixty-third film: Broadcast News. God I love this movie, and what a time to be watching a story with authenticity in news reporting as one of its pivotal points, am I right, canny consumers? The only thing better than Holly Hunter’s phone-unplugging crying breaks and Albert Brooks’ monumental sweating is Joan Cusack’s unbelievably perfect slapstick run from edit suite to control booth, tape in hand. If you’re ever going to be in love with William Hurt it should be in this movie, the shallow cad, and if you’re ever going to profess love to someone, follow it up immediately with “How do you like that, I buried the lede”. Bloody marvellous. Four fleeting penis shadow-puppets out of five.
