One Paragraph Movie Review: Captains Courageous
Sixty-ninth film (nice): Captains Courageous, the second movie I’ve watched in a row in an accidental series of mid-1930s blokey adventure films set on boats that start with the word ‘Captain’. A coming-of-age thing about a spoilt brat who learns how to not be spoilt or bratty after falling overboard at sea and being taught to fish by Spencer Tracy as a Porgtuguese wag, file this one under Not Really My Thing But Also Not Too Bad. Bonus points for teaching me about gutting and preserving cod livers, a lesson I didn’t need but still appreciated. Two and a half gigantic halibuts out of five.
