Eighty-ninth film: Dancer In The Dark. I’ve never seen this film before and there’s no way I’d watch it again, even though I absolutely loved it. And haaaated it. An anti-musical seemingly shot on CCTV, it doesn’t fit any category except ‘devastating’. I had to read a bunch of reviews to see what other people thought, and I have to agree with both the raves and the pans. Bjork is truly incredible in it, the supports are perfection, and the ridiculous musical numbers are mostly a welcome reprieve except for The Sound Of Music’s ‘My Favourite Things’ in a jail cell, which I paused so I could go and get another tissue. I’m floored. What a best worst great horrible thing. Five AND one cheerful corpse-waltzes out of five.
