One Paragraph Movie Review: In the Loop
Two hundred and fifty-sixth film: In The Loop, the pumped-up movie version of British series The Thick of It, featuring Peter Capaldi as the Prime f*cking minister’s director of f*cking communications. Directed by Armando Iannucci, the same guy who directed Veep, it has the expected amount of farce and chaos, and some baseline magnificent swearing. The actual story almost gets lost amongst the quickfire, West-Wing-with-obscenities political banter, but that’s to be expected from something almost irrelevant. It serves to make us suspect that the Iraq war was a bad idea thought up by people you wouldn’t want organising your freezer, but the point is the bordering-on-monologue dialogue. I need a lie-down, but I’ll be eternally grateful to this movie for introducing me to the phrase I will be stealing regularly from now on: “opera is just vowels”. Yep. Four f*cking Capitol Building f*cking glimpses out of five.
