One Paragraph Movie Review: Jules et Jim

Two hundred and seventy-eighth film: Jules et Jim, a French film from 1962 set around World War One, ostensibly about a love triangle but probably really about a bromance. Jules, an Austrian living in France, and Jim, a Frenchman played by Henri Serre who I immediately need to visit in a time machine, fall in love with Catherine. Catherine is a lady with impulses, and those impulses are not altogether fantastic forsensible and calm relationships. Jules and Jim, however, have the kind of friendship that all should aspire to: instant, long-lasting, honest, fun, and packed with excellent woolly jumpers. I’m not totally sure what this movie was trying to say, yet I still feel like I heard it very clearly. Menage a twee. Three travel-incompatible bottles of acid out of five.
