One Paragraph Movie Review: Talk To Her/Habla Con Ella

Two hundred and tenth film: Talk To Her, or Habla Con Ella in its native Spanish. If I just say “two blokes look after their comatose girlfriends” I’m severely underplaying both the plot and the effect of this thing. My emotions feel a bit betrayed by director Almodovar’s skill with portraying monsters as sympathetic and misunderstood, and I resent the upsetting garden path he led me up. But he did it with humour and heart and ballet, so I stupidly followed. He even portrayed the most shocking part of the movie as a surrealist silent movie metaphor with huge anatomical props, the sneaky wizard. And I guess it’s nice to see the almost gratuitous number off nipples offset by one of the characters being a female matador, but that’s… that’s a lot of nipples, señor. Three giant silent movie vaginas out of five.
