One Paragraph Movie Review: The Departed
Ninety-eighth film: The Departed. Yes, yes, yes, yes, YES. I mean, it doesn’t take much to make me enjoy Scorsese, who does fageddaboudit and macho violence in exactly the way I love consuming it, but this was an atypically simple idea (albeit a remake of a Hong Kong thriller, so credit where due etc) just left to grow tendrils and fester on screen with sweat and suits and guns and twists and Boston accents, the king of all the mangled-vowel accents. The acting is perfect, and the plot is JUST simple enough and JUST complicated enough that you have to think a lot, but don’t ever do that panic thing where you think you’re missing something important. If this movie was a garage, it would be where I would pahk the cah. Five cittizins out of five.
